Running the Long Con – “White Collar” Then and Now – Part 2

It is another day closer to the season 3 return of my favourite TV show, WHITE COLLAR.  I hope you enjoyed reading Part 1 of my look back at the things I love about the show.  If you missed Part 1, here’s what you missed:

  • The Wardrobe
  • The Truth, Half-Truths and Little White Lies
  • The Quirky Friend
  • The Women of White Collar

There was too much to talk about for one post so here is Part 2.  I’m sure I’ll think of something more after I publish but I’m sure there will be more opportunities in the future for more!  So here we go…let the recap continue! 🙂

5.  The Villains

This show has not been lacking in the villains department given our protagonists are here to solve crimes.  I particularly loved the ones with the fun nicknames like The Dutchman (season 1, “Pilot”), Ghovat (season 1 “Threads”) and The Vulture (season 3 “Taking Account”).  I wish they had more names for the villain-of-the-week – let’s hope I will get my wish in season 4.

But for now, let’s just look at some of the most interesting ones, namely, those who have had a past with Neal.

Fowler, Adler, Keller - coincidence all the baddies' names end with "ler"? Lol

Web Series Review: WHOLE DAY DOWN Episode 4 “Last Impressionists”

If texting while driving is frowned upon and drinking while driving is illegal, then someone should be arresting Willie right now.  Perhaps we can just blame it on his participation in all those pharmaceutical drug trials giving him strange side effects, such as growing an extra arm like Zaphod Beeblebrox (from “Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy”) and worse.

In “Last Impressionists“, our intrepid gallerists, Patrick (Patrick Breen) and Willie (Willie Garson), have a Cubist Couture exhibit they are preparing for.  The artist is an exotic and beautiful woman named Amora (Marta McGonagle) who repurposes the clothes that the Impressionists were buried in.  I think I’d look good in a Cezanne Suit Jacket with the Monet Mini Skirt…

Running The Long Con – “White Collar” Then and Now – Part 1

As the USA Network starts cranking up the gears to ready its fans for the mid-season return of WHITE COLLAR, it seems appropriate to take a look back at the last two-and-a-half seasons, to see the impact our favourite criminal consultant (or CI) has had on his FBI partner, and vice versa.  If, like me, you have tried to fill the long void of a near-five month hiatus by re-watching the first two seasons on DVD and the first half of season 3 on your DVR, then you will no doubt have noticed the many changes over the last forty episodes.

Those of you who have been following me on twitter (@valshopaholic) or been reading my blog know that this is the one show that I have been so obsessed with that I feel like I know it inside and out.  There is just too much to talk about in one single post, so this is part one of some of my observations and musings on the evolution of the show and its characters.

The Highlights of My 2011

2011 has been a bittersweet year for me.  As I struggled to look for work, I was suddenly faced with something I had never had this much of before: time!  Time to do many things I had been putting off doing but was always too busy to do before.  Although the opportunities of the “paid” variety were lacking, I was also given opportunities to do other things that just may one day lead to a more fulfilling life.

And so, as another year draws to a close, it’s time to reflect on some of the things and events that have impacted me in whatever capacity.  Many have been happy but some, not so much.  So here we go…

Retiring Swans Co-captain Craig Bolton takes a lap of honour around the SCG

Footy Season

The year in AFL has been a mixed one.  My team, the Sydney Swans, spent most of their home games in Sydney playing in wet conditions, which means I spent a lot of time trying to stay dry in the stands.  With the well-respected Paul Roos now retired after a very successful 8 years in the senior coach’s position, the reigns were handed down to his former assistant, John “Horse” Longmire.  It had been six years since the Swans won a Premiership and with many of its Premiership players retired or retiring, many critics did not give the youngsters on the 2011 playlist much chance to make the finals series.  As usual, the Swans showed their “Bloods” spirit and proved the naysayers wrong and we made it as far as the second week of the finals, finishing sixth on the ladder.  Not a bad effort at all.  Go Swans!

Web Series Review: WHOLE DAY DOWN Episode3 “China Syndrome”

When we last met our failed actors-turned-art gallery operators – Patrick (Patrick Breen) and Willie (Willie Garson), with their cohorts, Hunter (Steve Bloem), Franny (Francesca Fauci) and Patrick’s wife, Nadine (Elisa Donovan) – they were struggling after being struck down by a nasty art critic.

This time, they had much better luck with a “Neo-Ceramist” named Chomp who makes glasses and plates and assorted china ware out of dirt and broken glass he finds around nuclear waste disposal plants (it is important to note he does not go in the site, but around it).  Hence, the name “The China Syndrome”.

Surprisingly, it appears that nuclear china pieces are very popular, possibly thanks to the good feng shui that Hunter brought to the arrangement of the exhibit, and they finally make some money from their exhibition.  But do they need to throw in a Geiger counter and HazMat suit with every purchase?

China Syndrome

However, nothing is ever simple in this world, and we find our band of merry galleristas (or is it galleristi?) in a complex web of love pentagon.  Nadine is pregnant and the father is not her husband! Scandalous!

Nadine: “You find a doctor who will turn this DNA into his DNA!”

Willie: “I can get you his DNA. I can scrape it off of Hunter!”

Whoa!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.  So I hope you’re prepared for this avalanche!
